What an autism diagnosis really means

Whether a diagnosis comes early or late, it can be a turning point. It gives a name to experiences that may have felt confusing, and it opens the door to the right help.

It is not your fault

Autism is no one's fault, and a child being autistic says nothing about how much they are loved or how well they are raised. A diagnosis simply helps you understand your loved one more clearly.

Give yourself time to feel

Relief, worry, sadness, hope, it is normal to feel all of these at once. There is no right way to respond, and you do not have to have it all worked out straight away.

A diagnosis is the beginning of a clearer path, not the end of one. Take the time you need, and reach out when you are ready.

What comes next

A diagnosis can unlock support at school, at work, and in the community. We can help you understand what is available and take the next step at a pace that feels right.
